For the past few years, I’ve been working closely alongside Jane MacLean, a classically trained artist I first met during my gallery days, collaborating on character portraits for The Last Starborn Seer. l’ve just taken receipt on the final portraits and I can’t tell you how emotional it makes me to see my gang all together at last!
I knew the ethereal, evocative style of Jane’s work would complement my book perfectly and the finished portraits are stunning and speak to the tone and feel of the characters individually and to the book as a whole.
It’s been a true labour of love working on these portraits. As a former art-historian with a special interest in illustrated books, I’ve found the process on working with Jane on this body of work fascinating. Definitely the subject for a longer post at a later date!
I plan to share the portraits online nearer publication with little character biographies and also hope to produce some beautiful sets of art-cards as a preorder incentive, but I’m sharing the full motley crew on my website early (bar one mystery portrait that’s too much of a spoiler to reveal) as they’re too beautiful for the world not to see them!
